We have reviewed quite a few smart phones already and this time we’re putting our spotlight on the new Acer Liquid Z520. Acer Liquid Z520 is an extremely interesting Android smartphone. Why? First, it comes with super specs like Android Kitkat, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, and an 5-megapixel rear-facing camera. No wonder, it’s being dubbed as the brand’s most intriguing attempt. Not only that it also comes with rather than waving these specs like a banner. Acer also offers an "easy" mode that's simpler and friendlier for first-time users.
In a nutshell, the Acer Liquid Z520 is a flexible quad core smartphone. It aims high though in a few cases the effort is better than the execution. The aesthetics is on point, and it is an interesting specimen. It’s presented in a either black or white color scheme which reinforces the edgier look, but a grippy, soft-touch finish on parts of its back panel which helps in keeping the smart phone from looking and feeling too robotic. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S3, it looks as if it has the more premium build. You will definitely like its back cover, which it pulls off without too much trouble and has, so far, snapped back into place anytime.
It measures 6.06 inches tall by 3.39 inches wide by 0.25 inch deep. It is slim, but fairly tall. It should fit into anyone’s loose pockets. The Z520 weighs 4.16 ounces, which puts the device about in the middleweight class for a smartphone of its size. It has a 5-inch touchscreen display (480x854-pixel resolution) which takes up most of the device's face. Resolution and picture quality are a OK though it’s not as comparable to those devices who have screens with a 1,280x720 resolution. Just above the display you will find its front-facing camera. On the right spines are textured buttons for power and for the volume rocker. On the back sits the 5-megapixel camera lens. You'll have to pull off the back cover to access its 2000 mAH battery. It runs on Android Kitkat that features Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode, Power Saving, and so on. And just like every Android smartphones, it supports Google services like multiple inboxes and accounts that extend to the social sphere, and maps and navigation. Other salient features include SwiftKey and Swype virtual keyboards. There are also essentials like the usual clock, a document viewer, calculator, and calendar trio, plus a music player, and a converter. It also gives access to a task manager, to your social networks, and to a video player. Of course, you can skip on over to the Google Play store to download any other app.
It has an 5-megapixel camera which offers good photo quality. However, the shutter speed was a bit slow and pictures often blurred if the subject didn't stay perfectly still. You will definitely like the voice recognition feature which allows you to take photos using voice commands. It also comes with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies. Photos and video taken from this camera are passable, but not great. The camera will do the trick for video chats though. The device stores 8GB on board and up to 32GB of additional photos and videos on the microSD card.
Call quality on Globe's network was pretty good in our area. Volume was clear without any white noise. I tested the speakerphone by holding the phone at waist level, and I got the same results. 3G Speeds is OK as it showed some muscle loading up Web pages, downloading apps, and streaming music. During my battery drain test, it lasted 11 hours on its 2000 mAh battery.
For just 5000php, Acer Liquid Z520 is indeed a good device for budget friendly users. With blazing 3G speeds, stylish design, a camera, and a terrific processor – what more can you ask for? For me, it’s definitely a must have for those entry level users who are not expecting a handset at the top of its class. 4990php
